Blogging for CONCRETE
There is a common misconception that since concrete comes from our planet that in fact it is not green at all. In the sense that we are pulling a rare resource.
The main ingredient in concrete is limestone, one of the most abundant raw minerals found on our planet. Found all over the planet and and often times is being removed from the by-product from a different manufacturing or mining processes. We have been using limestone for building materials since the great pyramids and is the #1 used material for commercial buildings that are meant to last generation after generation.
Fly ash can be a big part in the mix and is a by-product from burning coal, that is being recycled. Slag cement is another ingredient that allows for less limestone and it is also a leftover from the iron ore processing. So of course recycled concrete can be used also.
No Waste
Concrete is mixed knowing how much is needed per project so there is usually a small amount of wasted material. Everything built with concrete is build to last through weather and the test of time. Build it once build it right and never build it again.
