ABOUT US GFRC

So you want concrete GFRC in your home or business. Now what?

Well it all starts here making an inquiry through our website, or simply call 530-268-5308. Once you make contact, and your project is finalized, the action begins. First things first is a template of the project which will be used numerous times during the project, and before the final install. This template for say a counter-top would consist of a simple and quick, yet effective mold layout of the cabinetry/framing and or a mock up of the counter and sink.  Once the template is done we are off to the shop until final delivery.

Once at our shop the custom mold framing starts. This step can vary in difficulty and creativity from project to project. There are many different professional tools, supplies, and ingredients. being able to make custom molds make the shapes and designs limitless. In saying that building tables and molds that are larger then conventional lumber adds numerous steps to the process the whole way through. As soon as the mold is created, angles, levels, and "template" are compared and checked.

Next Comes the custom GFRC mixture with measurements to the gram everything being accounted for from the size of the counter to the weather outside.  As soon as the water gets added a chemical reaction starts to happen and the first thing noticed is the temperature of the mix will steadily increase to 110 degrees. What does that mean? In the simplest way I can explain, the mix is already starting to harden and cure. We must move quickly and precisely at this stage of the process to insure there is no unrecoverable errors.

The curing process starts now and lasts the length of the piece. We start processing the concrete as fast as 1.5 hours after pour, or typically  12 hours later.

Then comes different processing  depending on the project some of those things are polishing, edge work, seam prep, sink prep, and any acid stain or color stain.

Finally comes our 7 Layer Sealer. This sealing process coats the entire surface and fills any space between the molecules of the gfrc. This unique sealing process does not allow acid stains, scratches or weathering even outside in the sun. It does not need maintenance.

GFRC is a specialty concrete made to withstand considerable use and is known not only for it's outstanding durability, but also it's flawless appearance and varying applications. GFRC stands for Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete, not your typical "wetcast" pour and dry kind of concrete. It contains many tiny fibers that help keep the weight down and allow for flexibility. The typical GFVC mix would consist of portland cement, sand, add-mixtures, color, and fibers. There are many steps involved to create a one-of-a-kind piece unlike any other styles of concrete. It was first developed in the 1970's and was mainly used in exterior architecture on large buildings uses. The last 20 years GFRC has been seen entering the home and business uses in a big way. GFRC is commonly used in countertops, sinks, tiles and furniture pieces, all of which are done offsite, delivered and installed just like granite or quartz.
